Burnt Midnight Oil
A little while back I was asked to prepare a short two day workshop on how to write a press release in English for the Media Relations master at the business school where I often find myself.
After burning copious amounts of that old midnight oil, I came up with such a course.
The first time this course was held was quite a nerve racking experience and I remember feeling much like an actor appearing on his first night. I really had no idea as to how my course would go down. Even though I was fairly sure that I had covered almost everything, and come up with a method that was thorough but, at the same time, quite straight forward. I had even come up with a way, I hoped, of getting the most out of a large group of people with widely differing levels of knowledge of English.
At the end of the day though, I had never really done anything as extensive as this. So how did the course go? Read more
Busy Times
I’ve got a lot on at the moment, what with courses kicking off right left and centre. Mix that in with a workshop, lesson dates and times which seem to be moved every other day, and things become complicated. Then there is the sausage project….
I need to think things through, so I’m off out for a walk and to drop off/pick up stuff from the cleaners. I’m feeling a little like a juggler who is in danger of having all his balls fall to the ground and bounce off in random directions.
A nasty cold and annoying cough are not helping matters either. Yes, I’m feeling sorry for myself.
I will overcome, I will overcome - I shall have to start repeating to myself…
Hope you are having a nice quiet day.
Italia.it isn’t.
It was supposed to have been a shop window to Italy, a tourism web portal par excellence, but it has turned out to be a 7 million Euro white elephant. If you try to visit, www.italia.it, you won’t see too much. All I’ve been getting is server timeouts. Brutta figura time.
Crazy if you ask me. At least they could run a flash presentation showing photos of Italy, and even a few links to regional tourist boards wouldn’t go amiss, but there is nothing, zero, nil, nada. The site is still listed on Google too, but you cannot get to it.
Apparently, those that were setting this thing up could not agree on much, so the project has been shelved for the immediate future. Madness, the most valuable domain name in Italy is not even running Google Ads. And I’m pretty sure that there would have been more than a few people willing to run other ads on this domain, at least while someone was deciding what to do with the project. This would have produced at least some income.
Italy frustrates once again.
Another little project
Shortly, things are still at the development stage, I shall be launching another little website. This one will be all about businesses and young business people in Italy. It’ll be part blog, part magazine, and, I hope, will generate some networking.
This new site will be mainly in English, but sections will also be in Italian - although I will not be writing them! My written Italian is just not good enough, yet.
This site is already ‘on-air’ but not really presentable, but despite this, the Google Analytics system has already picked up a visitor! I don’t know how the site was found, although it is visible to the www.
Watch this space for more information about this new, and, for me, interesting, little project.
