A big thanks to all of you who left messages of support regarding my mother in law. I’m pleased to be able to say that, although she is still in hospital, she is making progress, and is feeling a lot less poorly than she was a couple of weeks ago when she was rushed into hospital with breathing difficulties.
My other half is relieved, as you would imagine, but knows that her mum is not out of the woods just yet. Still, things are looking up, which is good news.
The downside is that our proposed holiday in Corsica has been cancelled because my other half wants to spend some time with her mum this summer.
Not going away will be a bit of a shame, and I was looking forward to touring the interesting French isle, but, I can understand why my other half feels that she will be too far away if things start looking bad.
Looks as though summer will be a little quiet this year, but, then again, there are plenty of places around Genova that I’ve never seen, but would very much like to. Lots of fodder for my camera too!
Clouds often do have silver linings.
Unfortunately my mother in law is in hospital again. The poor lady’s health has never been great, and years of chain smoking have finally caught up with her. Collapsing lungs, thyroid, heart and breathing problems, excessive weight loss, and loss of appetite.
All in all, not good. My other half is distraught and has been down in Genova for the last week with our little one. She seems to be expecting the worse, even if this her mother has been in hospital a few times before now.
I’m off down to Genova this afternoon to attempt to bring our little one back to Milan, so at least my other half will have, possibly, one less thing to deal with/ worry about.
To cap it all, and on top of everything else, I’ve got three new courses kicking off this week, and do not have everything ready yet (not my fault).
It never rains but it pours.
OK, this is pretty simple. If you cannot actually get those pictures into posts via WordPress 2.5′s new image management thingy, you can usually see the URL of the image you want after funding it in the Add Media > Add an image iconr.
All you do is copy the url of your chosen image from the pop up menu you see after clicking on the Add an image icon and paste it into the insert/edit image pop up which appears when you click on the little tree icon in the menu bar above your post.
Your image will then appear in your post, just the same as in the old WordPress, but now with the bonus of the image size being added automagically.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way! At least this makes 2.5 useable until the next upgrade comes along.
Having read that WordPress 2.5 was out, I was curious to see what it was like, but I had also read that there were problems.
However, my curiosity got the better of me, and I went ahead and installed this new milestone release of my favourite blogging platform. Only, I installed WordPress 2.5 on a domain I’m not using at the moment, just to be on the safe side.
Boy, am I glad I did not go ahead and upgrade Blog from Italy to WP 2.5!
From the above comment you will have understood that everything is not rosy with WordPress’s latest and greatest. Oh no.
While WP 2.5 does work, you may well have problems adding images to posts. Sometimes it works, other times, most times, it just doesn’t and the new image insertion thingummy just sits there doing nothing until you get sick of waiting and close it down. You try again, and the same thing happens, and again. At least this is what happened to me.
Judging from the WordPress forums, I’m not the only one to be having problems, and I do not envy the brave few who have gone the whole hog and upgraded to WP 2.5 from the current version. Some hardy souls did this without creating a backup, and have lived to regret it.
So, do not let your curiosity and impatience get the better of you, unless you know what a local installation is, or you have some spare space on a server hard disk sitting around doing nothing.
Wait until the next version, watch the web and forums for problems, and then go for it – having backed up everything first – and that means database and all the WordPress files on your server.
You have been warned!!
The rubbish crisis which appears to have made Naples infamous the world over, has now been joined by a mozzarella crisis. A Buffalo Mozzarella crisis, to be more precise.
As you may have seen from stories in the press the world over, this delicious cheese, one of Italy’s more prized delicacies, has become the subject of a health scare.

Italian Buffalo Mozzarella
That the mozzarella crisis is a direct result of the trash trouble is highly likely. Years of dumping toxic waste in the countryside around Naples plus copious doses of political inaction and mismanagement have not helped either. Sooner or later it was inevitable that the toxins would enter the food chain.
‘Sooner’ has now arrived.
