Please Help Me find a New Look!
One of my readers, Rajab, has pointed out that this blog is becoming a bit messy. I have to agree, so I’ve been trying to find a new look. Only I can’t quite find what I’m looking for.
The people who have voted in my little poll have indicated that they prefer to see full posts, and not the snippets which so many ‘mamazine’ style blogs are erring towards.
What I’d like to do is to find a WordPress theme which does a bit of both. I’d like to show two or three full posts on the front page (with side bars), and then have six or so snippets beneath that show posts from my long list of categories (without side bars).
If anyone knows of a free or even a commercial theme that can do this, then please let me know. I have tried messing about with WordPress code, but, a) I’m not very good at this and b) I don’t really have the time to do it. However, I would like to make this blog as easy to read as I can. And I’d like to be able to show a few ads, in the hope that this blog can become self supporting financially. I sort of like the idea of creating my own on-line newspaper about Italy.
Any and all practical suggestions will be considered.
Thanks, as ever, for reading.

Writing to Ambassadors, Consuls and the like
Once people know that you are English and that you speak Italian, you often end up with some interesting requests for assistance. Indeed, the other day, someone asked me to help her write a letter of invitation to the ambassador and the consul of a certain large country, which happens to be the origin of that ‘English’ dish curry, to speak at a conference to be held in Milan later this month.
Well, one of the letters was well received and at least one of the above mentioned parties has agreed to attend. The person in question even complimented the style of the letter he received, which I guess earns me a few brownie points.
Sometimes, a well written letter can make all the difference, and help create the write, if you will excuse the pun, impression. If anyone out there needs some help in this respect, and thinks I may be of some use, then send me a mail outlining what is needed, or even the letter in Italian, and I’ll see what I can do. I will charge a minimum fee of around 50 Euros plus IVA for a a single A4 page.
Although 50 Euros may sound like a lot, if it clinches a contract or gets that all important acceptance to an invitation, then I think the expense will be justified. And you will then have a copy of a letter which you can use again in similar circumstances.
A poll
My father thinks that donating money to charity is generally a waste of time, and he believes that many others feel the same way. What do you think? Let me know by voting in the poll under the search box. Thanks.
Assistance in finding EFL teachers.
I’m planning to use this blog to help English language teachers find, well, other English language teachers in Italy.
If you are an independent language teacher, like me, then you may well have come across the situation in which you have had to turn down work because you simply don’t have the resources to handle it. By resources, I generally mean teachers. As everyone in this game knows, one of the biggest problems is finding good teachers, and good teachers often do not know where to look. Not any more, or that is my hope.
So, if you have a big job coming up, want to expand or simply want to develop a few contacts in your area of Italy, send me some details, and I’ll post them here. I’ll post fuller information on this matter either later today, or tomorrow.
