The Italian Version of Mr Bean!
I know Mr Bean went down quite well in Italy. Indeed, they still show Mr Bean on TV here. However, what I did not know was that one crazy Italian is actually imitating him!
If you click around Arnaldo Mangini’s site - this is a good a point as any to ‘click-off’, you’ll find out what I mean. To be fair, the guy does admit to taking off the original Rowan Atkinson character, but I’ve no idea whether the original Mr Bean knows about this impersonator.
Well, they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
It’s amazing what you dig up from the Web. And know, I was not looking for anything to do with Mr Bean. Honest.
Man of the Year
I saw Man of the Year on Monday evening, which is a film starring Mork, sorry Robin Williams. It’s about a comedian who almost manages to get himself voted in as president of the USA, but it is not really a comedy. In fact, it is part thriller. I’m not going to tell you the plot and spoil it, because I think the film is worth watching, especially for Italians or those who know Italy.
Why do I think this? Well, I’m not sure, but it almost looks as though the writer, Barry Levinson (he directed Rain Man), may have heard about Beppe Grillo’s exploits in Italy. Beppe Grillo, an Italian comedian, is potential example of a comic who could end up becoming a politician. I wonder if Mr Levinson read something about Grillo in the international press, or came to Italy on holiday and met up with some Italian Grillo fans. I doubt it, but then you never know. If you do see the film and your are either Italian or live in Italy, let me know what you think. If there was no Grillo influence, then the film is just yet another example of how the populations of the world are becoming fed up with the superficiality of politicians.
Zelig, Milan - Comedy Show in English TONIGHT
Whilst flicking through the pages of the Metro free newspaper on the way to work this morning, I noticed that Zelig a well know Italian cabaret venue, located at Viale Monza, 140, Milan (click on the address to go to the Platial Map), has ‘Culture Shock’, a comedy set written by English comic John Peter Sloan this evening at 9:30. The show will poke fun at the cultural differences between Italians and the English and so should be worth a look. Apparently around 75% of the show will be in English.
Alas, I won’t be there, which is a shame. Perhaps someone who reads this and does go along can say how it was.
