Search lights over Milan

I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but the night sky was lit up by around four searchlights on Sunday and Monday night. When I first saw these beams of light, I thought it was something to do with Ferrari winning the F1 championship, but I don’t know why the lights continued to shine on Monday. Maybe Milan is expecting an alien invasion or something. Then again, the local power company may have been trying to burn off a few excess watts of energy production. Who knows. Well I don’t. If someone could ‘enlighten’ me, I’d be all ears.

Well, don’t know if they are aliens, but Milan was expecting the invasion of the commissaries that have to judge the city’s project for the Internetional Expo of 2015.
Those beams should show the shape of the new skyscrapers that the city congress will build by 2015 (i’m not sure if they will build those skyscrapers even if the Expo will be assigned to our competitor, Smirne).
Actually I hope that the Expo will be assigned to Milan. You know how things work in Italy: if we get the Expo we have a chance taht the new roads, the three new lines of underground and every other infrastructure that have been planned and delayed for years, will be completed in time.

Ah, now all is clear - no Aliens!!

Thanks Cristian. I had seen a bit of advertising about this Expo 2015 thing, but I had not connected the searchlights to the event.

I hope the Expo does come to Milan - it will be very interesting, and I’ve never been to an Expo before. And, as you say, the economic boost and related improvements to Milan will be most welcome.

Yep, Italy is odd at times, but Milan is quite an exception to the rule - a very dynamic city - almost ‘unitalian’! ;-)

    All the best,

    Alex

I think this is probably a habit to give honor for certain people or occasion, which are in this case, is winning the F-1 by Ferrari. I have heard in some country, they turn the lights for certain length of time to make an honor for their deceased heroes.

Have your say
