Man of Roma
0 viewsMan of Roma writes a thoughtful blog. And he writes it very well, in my not so humble (see previous post) opinion. I wish I could write in Italian as well as he writes in English. One day, one day.
He even knew Montezemolo and says he is a good chap. This is interesting because it goes some way towards confirming my media developed opinion of Montezemolo.
Moving back to Man of Roma, he should be regarded as a shining example of just how well an Italian, or any other nationality for that matter, can learn another language. And I shall use his blog, and that of Rod - the Wind Rose Hotel blogger - to inspire all of those students of mine who think they are just not up to the job.
“Rubbish”, I shall retort, when I hear the ‘I’ll never learn English’ comments - just look at Man of Roma and Rob’s blogs. You can do it!
Yet more reasons why Italy can pull itself out of the mire.

Thank you. Your appreciation makes me happy, coming from a mother-tongue Englishman. Unfortunately I have to say I do not master English as much as I would (as one can see by browsing my web log writings), I’m just doing what I can, sometimes toiling for each sentence (when topics become complex). Your way of writing instead is just super and I admire it. It is perfect British English, the best of the best.
Well, my only consolation can be that my special attention goes to content more than the style (or correctness) of language. My opinion regarding languages and how to learn them I will explain in a post I am planning since a long time (hope it might help).
In short, it is based on the *input method* (input = reading and listening), which basically means being flooded by written and oral language - movies, tv etc. - for as many hours one can, each day. Output (writing and speaking) will follow in a natural way. Grammar should be studied only at a later stage, to clarify things a bit. I met a Canadian guy who spoke 9 foreign languages by making use of this method. It is how children learn languages from parents, after all.
All the best (and thanks for your faith in our beautiful country, which I always had but some people here seem to have lost)

Man of Roma,
You are welcome - praise where praise is due!
I shall look forward to your post about learning languages.
Alex
Debudeodhar,
Thanks for dropping in, and for saying nice things about my site!
I only write in English because it is the language I know the best. I could attempt to write in Italian, and have, but the results are terrible!
Nice to see someone else all the way from India who has popped in.
All the best,
Alex
