Articles on BlogfromItaly.com have been mentioned by publications such as the UK’s Guardian Online, Wikipedia, Huffington Post and Reuters, as well as the web edition of the Italian publication L’Espresso. In addition, BlogfromItaly.com posts are featured on international news website, GlobalPost.com.
BlogfromItaly.com would make an ideal place for young Italian journalists to show off their abilities to write in English.
With this in mind, BlogfromItaly.com is looking for three Italian writers to make regular English language contributions to this site.
As an added bonus, the names of those writers who show the greatest promise will be passed on to GlobalPost’s Head of Blog Development, John Wilpers, who has kindly agreed to pass on the names to GlobalPost editors. As a result, there is a possibility that the individuals concerned will be invited to write an article for GlobalPost, and they may well be paid for this too.
Helping Aspiring Italian Journalists
The objective of these jobs, apart from taking some of the load off BlogfromItaly’s author, Alex Roe, is to give aspiring Italian journalists an opportunity to show the world what they can do – in English. Hopefully as a result of the exposure this initiative will create, such people will find opportunities to write for other publications, and if this means they can no longer contribute to BlogfromItaly.com, so be it. No problem! Objective reached.
If Alex Roe can use BlogfromItaly.com to help give young Italian journalists a hand with their careers, wonderful. I, Alex Roe, will be more than happy.
What BlogfromItaly.com is Looking For
Articles based on facts on just about any aspect of Italy.
Note that subjects which are in the news are more likely to generate more web traffic and will increase the chance of articles being read by media professionals such as newspaper and magazine editors.
For an idea of the range of subjects BlogfromItaly.com covers, take a look at the Categories section which appears to the side of any post which is not on the front page of BlogfromItaly.com.
Articles on businesses, interviews, and product features are acceptable, provided that they are not written purely for marketing purposes.
Each article must be between 500 to 800 words in length and should contain a minimum of one and a maximum of three images. Writers must use images which they have permission to use, and they will be responsible for selecting these images. BlogfromItaly.com has access to 600+ Italy themed images.
Additionally for readability purposes, each article must consist of short paragraphs, and paragraph headings would be an advantage too. Paragraphs must be connected to one another – if you are not sure what this means, ask Alex Roe.
Articles must be grammatically accurate. Alex Roe requires a very high standard of written English, and if he does not think an article is accurate or well written enough, the article will not be published.
Moreover, each article must be supported by links to the sources, in Italian or English, on which they are based.
Within articles, opinions are acceptable, but personal attacks and spurious claims will not be permitted.
The ability to use keywords and key word phrases would be useful, and will ensure that articles are more visible in search engines.
What Writers Get in Exchange
Primarily, writers for BlogfromItaly.com will receive exposure.
To help achieve this aim, each article will contain a short biography of the writer concerned with two links to web pages where more information or additional examples of their work may be found.
At present, BlogfromItaly.com cannot pay writers for their work, although this may change in future. If an organisation wishes to offer sponsorship for writers, then please contact Alex Roe at BlogfromItaly.com.
Note that BlogfromItaly.com is not a registered publication in Italy. This means that articles published here will not count towards achieving accreditation as a journalist in Italy, which means that articles published on BlogfromItaly.com can only be used to showcase talent. Although, as mentioned before, the names of promising writers will be passed on to John Wilpers of international news site GlobalPost.com – which is a registered publication.
