English Yellow Pages

March 10, 2008 Information No Comments

English Yellow PagesI got an email today asking about English speaking vets in Milan, and I found the answer in the English Yellow Pages, which is ìa handy list of English speaking businesses and professionals throughout Italy.

The English Yellow Pages may prove useful to those of you who are not quite up to scratch with Italian, or are not going to be here long enough to have time to get a good enough handle on the language. This may well be the case if you have only been seconded here for a year or so.

This service may also be useful for tourists who have some problem or other and need to find some way to get round the language barrier. Not a bad favourite to add to your mobile phone browser, if you think the thing is up to it. My mobile phone browser is terrible.

Assuming you can view the site, you will find that there is quite an impressive list of categories. You can wade through them all here, or you can simply search by name and city.

Despite its, possibly misleading, name, the English Yellow Pages are actually based in Rome in Italy and were set up in 1984 by an enterprising American woman, one Tracy Roberts, an American from Santa Monica, California.

Try the service out and see how you get on.

For those who did not know, Francesco Cossiga, who died the other day, was an Italian politician and one time President of Italy. Berlusconi v Fini – Slinging Old Mud

As you may be aware, the generally tumultus world of Italian politics is in turmoil. The Berlusconi government is teetering on the brink of collapse, but what is really surprising, is that this collapse was sparked from the inside.

Berlusconi Divorces Fini

30 Jul 2010

Kotipizza Berlusconi

From spat to full-blown split. Silvio Berlusconi’s marriage of political convenience to Gianfranco Fini has ended in tears. Scorned lover Berlusconi even rejected Fini’s last minute attempts to kiss and make up and remain part of Berlusconi’s party of love. End of love in. Period.

Strange days in Italy. Whilst digging into illicit goings on surrounding the awarding of contracts for wind farms in Sardinia, Italy’s carabinieri police appear to have uncovered the insidious sequel to a mysterious illegal masonic group known as Propaganda 2, or P2 for short. Italy’s press have wasted no time in labelling the sequel, Propaganda 3. Or P3 for short.

Italian News Fragments from July 2010

It’s hot here. Summer was a little late in coming this year, but it’s well and truly here now. I’m keeping busy, which is good, but I’m finding less time to blog about Italy, which is not so good. Here’s a little of what his happening in Italy at the moment.

Guess Where in Italy – Part 12

Time for another little Guess Where in Italy? challenge, as I have not run one for a while. Seeing as summer is just about upon us, and some will be looking for a little vacation inspiration, here’s a picture which might just inspire you to come to Italy this summer.

Is Italy is Falling?

There was a blog, written by an Italian under a pseudonym, called ‘Italy is Falling’. This blog is no more. From the title of the blog, ‘Italy is Falling’, one can understand the writers feelings towards contemporary Italy. Others, it seems, might also believe that Italy is falling.
