Of Writing and Love Struck Spiders

June 1, 2009 Me No Comments

I can’t write.  Well, not in the tradition pen and paper sense.

Honestly, if you were ever to have the misfortune of  seeing my dire handwriting, you would probably run away screaming and feeling confused.

About the only being likely to find my handwriting even moderately attractive would be a female spider in search of a mate.  This poor deluded lady-spider might just about mistake my illegible scrawl for the love poem of some amorous male of the spider species.

Thanks be to computers and their neat keyboards, is what I say.  Some of my readers though, may well wish that I had never discovered computers or the joys of blogging!

Sorry, if I write too much.

A List of My Interests

April 26, 2009 Me 3 Comments

I don’t know if this will interest anyone, but I’m trying to understand how many things interest me.  So I’ve made a list, partly for fun, partly to help me understand, and, perhaps, focus in on some subjects a little better as time passes.

The list is quite long, but not exhaustive, and will probably grow over time as other things spring to mind.  Indeed, I’ve just thought of a few things I’ve missed!

My knowledge of the subjects listed ranges from a little to quite a lot, and tends to reflect the topics which are the flavour of a particular moment.

On to the list. … Continue Reading

Letter to Santa 2008

I’ve written a letter to Santa.  Well, I’m only 43 and a half, so I guess I still can.

Feel free to add anything else. … Continue Reading

Clouds often do have silver linings.

A big thanks to all of you who left messages of support regarding my mother in law. I’m pleased to be able to say that, although she is still in hospital, she is making progress, and is feeling a lot less poorly than she was a couple of weeks ago when she was rushed into hospital with breathing difficulties.

My other half is relieved, as you would imagine, but knows that her mum is not out of the woods just yet. Still, things are looking up, which is good news.

The downside is that our proposed holiday in Corsica has been cancelled because my other half wants to spend some time with her mum this summer.

Not going away will be a bit of a shame, and I was looking forward to touring the interesting French isle, but, I can understand why my other half feels that she will be too far away if things start looking bad.

Looks as though summer will be a little quiet this year, but, then again, there are plenty of places around Genova that I’ve never seen, but would very much like to. Lots of fodder for my camera too!

It never rains but it pours.

Unfortunately my mother in law is in hospital again. The poor lady’s health has never been great, and years of chain smoking have finally caught up with her. Collapsing lungs, thyroid, heart and breathing problems, excessive weight loss, and loss of appetite.

All in all, not good. My other half is distraught and has been down in Genova for the last week with our little one. She seems to be expecting the worse, even if this her mother has been in hospital a few times before now.

I’m off down to Genova this afternoon to attempt to bring our little one back to Milan, so at least my other half will have, possibly, one less thing to deal with/ worry about.

To cap it all, and on top of everything else, I’ve got three new courses kicking off this week, and do not have everything ready yet (not my fault).

It never rains but it pours.

Francesco Cossiga Understood Italy

18 Aug 2010

For those who did not know, Francesco Cossiga, who died the other day, was an Italian politician and one time President of Italy. Cossiga hailed from Sardinia, was a fan of John Le Carre and had earned himself the nickname “the pickaxe” owing to his no holds barred criticism of other Italian politicians.

Berlusconi v Fini – Slinging Old Mud
