Not in Italy

April 27, 2009 Funny 11 Comments

Yesterday, in the company of three Italians, and women at that, I made a little discovery concerning something which is not in Italy.

What I discovered was that something I grew up with in England is hardly known here in Italy.  This surprised me, as the item to which I am referring inhabited most of the bathrooms I had ever visited in the British Isles.

Thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Italian bathroom with one, and I don’t recall having seen the things in Italian shops either, whereas no self-respecting Boots the Chemist’s would be without them.

Just what the blazes am I on about.  Well, dear reader, I’m not going to let on.  It’s Monday, the weather is grotty here in dull Milan, so I thought I’d try to extinguish those Monday blues with a little fun.

If you have not guessed what the heck I’m waffling on about, and have a few spare moments, then do read on for some more clues. … Continue Reading

Berlusconi the Wizard 2

May 28, 2008 Funny No Comments

Last week I wrote a post entitled Berlusconi the Wizard about a lovely little cartoon of Berlusconi tackling the Naples rubbish problem in is own inimitable way. Well, I’ve found said cartoon, which appeared in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

It can be seen here on PressDisplay.com – if the link does not take you to the right edition, just use the little calendar to find the 20th May edition of Corriere della Sera. The ‘toon is on the front page, and if you click on said page, you’ll see the full size version.

Actually, the Berlusconi as a wizard theme is used in quite a few of the cartoons appearing on the front page of what is one of Italy’s main newspapers. To see more, have a browse through last and this week’s editions.

Happy chuckles!

Italy’s Next Pope? Not.

May 21, 2008 Funny 1 Comment

I’ve no idea who created this photo-montage, or where it came from, but knowing Italy as I do, I found the unholy combination, highly amusing.

Oddly enough, I found this charming photography of Silvio Berlusconi in fancy dress gazing out at me from a computer screen at the business school.

I suapect that there may be a few commies within the school.

Berlusco for Pope!

Berlusco for Pope!

It did make me chuckle.  A bit of a frightening thought though.

Very well done.

I’m a Lime – What Tree Are You?

May 6, 2008 Funny No Comments

Not happy with your star sign? Don’t like the meaning of your Christian name? Feeling a bit wooden?

Then maybe you’d like to know what tree you are! And, by now I’m sure you are pining to know. Groan.

If so, go to the About:Holisitc Healing site to find out! And let me know if you like, especially if you agree with your tree.

It’s a Celtic thing apparently.

Thanks to my other half for this. Well, she sent me the list of trees in Italian, and I rooted around the internet and dug up a site in English on the same subject.

Nope, this post is not about Italy – I’m branching out.

Buzz Lightyear!

May 5, 2008 Funny No Comments

At the real risk of getting a bullet, or a fish in the post, or finding a dead horse’s or sheep’s head lounging on the bed, I have to say that Andy’s recent comparison of Mr Berlusconi to Buzz Lightyear had me in stitches! Fair brightened up a dullish Monday morning.

If you’ve ever seen the first Toy Story movie, then you may well be able to understand why this comparison is so apt.

Go on, dig out or rent a copy of Toy Story, and while you are watching it, think about Italy’s latest regurgitated prime minister, and see if you agree with Andy and myself.

For those who did not know, Francesco Cossiga, who died the other day, was an Italian politician and one time President of Italy. Berlusconi v Fini – Slinging Old Mud

As you may be aware, the generally tumultus world of Italian politics is in turmoil. The Berlusconi government is teetering on the brink of collapse, but what is really surprising, is that this collapse was sparked from the inside.

Berlusconi Divorces Fini

30 Jul 2010

Kotipizza Berlusconi

From spat to full-blown split. Silvio Berlusconi’s marriage of political convenience to Gianfranco Fini has ended in tears. Scorned lover Berlusconi even rejected Fini’s last minute attempts to kiss and make up and remain part of Berlusconi’s party of love. End of love in. Period.
