Ballooning Over Tuscany

February 23, 2010 Travel 8 Comments

I like the idea of doing something different on holiday, and although I’ve never done it, I can think of nothing quite as appealing as the idea of floating silently over Tuscany in a hot air balloon.

Unsurprisingly, I am not the first to have thought of this interesting way to see Italy, and on YouTube there are quite a few videos of hot air balloon trips over Tuscany, Italy.

Here is one such hot air ballooning in Tuscany trip video which I think captures the experience of floating over the glorious Tuscan landscape quite well.

Up, up, and away!

Fancy Ballooning over Tuscany Yourself?

For those of you who might like to try this out, here are links to the websites of five ballooning companies in Italy which can arrange for you to float over Tuscany, Umbria or Piedmont in a hot air balloon:

I’m sure such a trip would make an excellent birthday present for someone.

PS If you take a camera, make sure you tether it to the side of the basket. I would.  Otherwise you might lose all your lovely pictures. Literally.

PPS Send me your ballooning trip photos, and I’ll publish them here, if you like.

  1. We did a balloon trip with Ballooning Over Tuscany back in 2005, and still remember every minute of it. A fantastic experience, and one we would thoroughly recommend.

  2. We would love to do this sometime but have failed in our attempts to find someone who does balloon trips in our region of Northern Lazio.

      Hi LindyLouMac,

I’ve had a quick look, but cannot find any info on balloon trips over northern Lazio. I would suggest that you contact the companies listed above and ask them.

Northern Lazio is basically southern Tuscany and south eastern Umbria, in which case Balloons over Italy may be able to help.

      Best,

      Alex

  3. This is one of those things on my bucket list, Alex! Well, ballooning over anywhere, actually. I can’t think of a much better place than Tuscany, though!!

    • Alex Roe says:

It would be a great thing to do, I agree, Cherrye.

A balloon trip over Tuscany would be great, but there are other areas of Italy which would be great to see from up high – your neck of the Italian woods, for example.

      Best,

      Alex

We did this on our 25th anniversary in June 2008. It was fantastic and we look forward to going again. We definitely would strongly recommend going for a ride if you are vacationing in Tuscany. Also Robert and Liz are the most entertaining hosts you can imagine, very amusing and great raconteurs.

  5. Oh, To Live in Tuscany…

Tuscany is a beautiful place. Anyone who tells you different is either lying or French. I love Chianti. The Chianti hills of Italy, between Florence and Siena, nurture some exquisite grapes that produce one of the best wines in……
