I met Italian Scupltor Gianpietro Carlesso!
Yes, finally, I got to meet Gianpietro Carlesso and some of his friends including Max, and the guy who is helping Gianpietro promote is eminently promotable work, Carlo.
It was the first time I’d ever met a real life sculptor, but the experience was painless, I’m pleased to report. Gianpietro is a very interesting person, and a thoroughly decent chap to boot.
I chatted with him about his work and how he comes up with his ideas, which was fascinating. He is very well read and absorbs topics as diverse as particle physics, I think it was (the wine got to my head). And he finds energy intriguing, and this is something he attempts to represent in his work.
Gianpietro gave me a whole bundle of past catalogues, from which I noted just how much his work has evolved over time. Suffice it to say that the variety of pieces he produces is extensive. It’s no wonder that he has quite a number of fans. The more I see what he is capable of, the more I like his work.
I have to say that I am extremely happy to have met, face to face, the man behind the creativity, I can tell you.
More about the intriguing Mr Carlesso will be coming soon, I assure you. And a major international magazine is about to release an article about the man and his work. I’d love to tell you which publication, but it would not be good natured of me.
Here is an example of his more recent work ‘Struttura’:
I know I’ve shown this before, but, well, I wanted to show it off again!
Wow! Everything Seems much Snappier.
I’ve just gone and installed yet another piece of WordPress magic, which goes by the slightly geeky name of WP-DBManager.
Basically, this jewel of a plugin enables me to do good things like automatically backup and optimize this site’s database. I’ve just hit the optimize button, and the results were noticeable to me, hence the title of this post.
WP-DBManager also does some other clever things, but they may be a bit sophisticated for me, so I’ll leave them for a rainy day.
This eminently useful plugin was very easy to install and is simplicity itself to use. Full marks to one Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan for having built and offered this useful plugin to the WordPress community. Without it, I’d have to mess with something both powerful and potentially deadly called PhpMyAdmin. While PhpMyAdmin is excellent, it has more options than you can shake a stick at, and this is why to the inexpert (Me!), it can potentially turn a backup into a disaster. Talk about Catch 22!
Anyway, I don’t have to worry so much now, because WP-DBManager makes backups simple, and the system will even automagically email me a copy of my precious 850+ posts. Wonderful! Thoroughly recommended.
Many thanks to the curiously named Tubetorial site for putting me onto this superb plugin (Is that enough superlatives??!!).
If you happen to have a WordPress based site, then you’ve got to have this plugin, unless that is, the only word you understand from the expression ‘risk management’ is ‘risk’. Because without it, you really do risk losing many hours of work.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep this blog going long enough for me to spend some time in my old age browsing through it and uttering phrases such as ‘Ah, those were the days.’ and ‘They don’t do that like they used to.’, plus ‘Wow, Italy really was a crazy place.’
Have a nice worry free weekend. I will, now.
