Gormito‘Hunting the what?’, you may be mouthing. Well, if you did not know, the Antique Torg (a strained translation from the Italian ‘l’Antico Torg’), is an agressive looking little fellow who belongs to one of the upteen Gormiti clans. He resembles the figure in the picture on your left.

The word on the via (street) here is that Mr Berlusconi is quite likely to win the Italian general elections, which are coming up faster than a flashy Ferrari in your wing mirrors. However, if you work for Alitalia or one of the myriad of companies that feed off the collapsing Italian airline, you’ll probably want the B man holding Italy’s reins. Berlusco is very good at giving the impression he is Mr Italy, even if he well knows that by keeping Alitalia, Allitalian, he will also be safeguarding his own power base.

Chianti Sculpture ParkMy writings on Gianpietro Carlesso caused me to ‘come up in conversation’ the other day while Chris Bright was chatting fellow American and Milan based Sean Carlos, and, as a result of Sean’s recent email, I’ve been darting around the web looking at sculpture related things. There is some interesting stuff out there, and some future posts will be dedicated to them, and, in turn, I hope, help the lives of struggling artists become, well, less of a struggle. High hopes indeed, I know.

MiArt 2008 - contactThe 13th edition of Milan’s International Modern and Contemporary Art Fair kicks off shortly, as you will see if you click on the link. I’ll be at the invitation-only inauguration which is on Thursday 4th April, camera in hand. The event is to be held at the Milan Fiera’s Milan location, which can be reached via Milan’s red metro line. You just get off at the Amendola Fiera station.

I met up with Nevadan Joe Tangredi, the guy behind travel site start-up Volette.com, and his Italian cousin Giuseppe, here in sunny Milan yesterday afternoon. Giuseppe works for Endemol, the tv production company, which makes a whole host of programs for Italian TV.

A little before Christmas I was contacted by an American couple who were seriously considering consummating their love affair with Italy by having a serious go at setting up house and home here.

So it was that Chris Bright and his wife Jessica Spiegel came over to test the waters.

‘Writers’ is what Milan’s band of graffiti artists call themselves. I’m not all that sure as to the artistic merit of their efforts, which in the main appear to be attempting to scrawl their names just about everywhere and anywhere, including on the façade of our appartment block.
