Sausage Progress

October 31, 2007 Life in Italy No Comments

With a little bit of luck a few bags of super sausage mix should arrive in Milan today. This means that I can ask the butcher to order the pork and sausage production can commence. The prospect is mouthwatering.

Once a few bangers have been made, they will be delivered to the 442 and an official sausage tasting will be held. If all goes according to plan, this event will take place at some time next week. I will admit to being on tenderhooks, after all, what happens if nobody likes the results of the sausage struggle? Yes, this is a slight worry, which is why a few different blends will be produced so that we can find out what everyone’s preferred sausage blend is.

I’ve been spreading the word on the sausage front and quite a few people have said that they would like to come along to the sausage tasting. I’m almost thinking about running off a few invitations to this event. We’ll see.

This sausage story is completely new territory for me, but may make for an interesting, if rather difficult to explain, addition to my CV.

More news on the sausage tasting will follow, as will information about the launch of the 442′s full English breakfast – which will probably be launched at a special price of €10. For Milan, this is an exceptionally good price, as any of you who have been to the various brunches held around Milan will know.

A rather cool coder called Rob Marsh, who appears to be a Roman Catholic priest, wrote the excellent ‘similar posts‘ WordPress plugin that I’ve just installed. I’m still getting the hang of the thing, but the results are already looking interesting.

Father Marsh obviously moves in mysterious ways. Both priest and coder. Wow! His wonderful plugin is a real example of divine inspiration if ever there was one.

Many thanks Father Marsh!

What’s on

October 30, 2007 Events No Comments

If you take a peek at the top navigation bar, you will see the words ‘What’s on’. Clicking on these words you will be taken to a new page with links to information about what is happening in various locations within Italy, not just Milan.

Why have I done this? Well, I want to make it easy for people to find out what’s going down in Italy – from a cultural point of view. These links should help you find out about events before they happen. Unlike my last minute post about the Celtic New Year event this weekend in Milan, says he going slightly red.

I will add links to other locations over time.

Apologies time

Sorry if you have been visiting and finding things a little up and down on this site today. I’ve been experimenting.

There is now a related posts feature, but the posts listed are not always that, er, well, related. It’s a case of ‘work in progress’. Things may return to normal at any time, although I’m starting to lose track of what exactly ‘normal’ is. Lot’s of balls in the air at the moment.

Normal service may never be resumed…….!

Levi-Prodi blog gaggers extraordinaire

October 29, 2007 Italian politics No Comments

Yes, I was a bit slow on the uptake re the Levi Prodi attempts to censor bloggers attempts to tell it how it is with regard to the situation in Italy. But I am not all that surprised that there was something of a time lag between the information getting out and ending up in my view. Incidentally, I found out about this ‘gag the bloggers’ law proposal via the pocket pc version of Google news, which presents news items about Italy in English.

Why am I not all that surprised? Well, I had not visited Grillo’s blog for a few days and I had not seem anything on Italian TV news. Surprise, surprise. It is no surprise, however, how Prodi and co tried to use the ‘stealth’ approach with regard to this new law. They knew full well that the reaction would be negative.

Thank heavens for people like Grillo. Without his continual monitoring of what those at the top are getting up to, nobody would no anything until it was way too late. Can’t beat a little open transparent democracy, that’s what I say, only Prodi and co did their level best to be as undemocratic as possible. Freedom of the press was first to go in this granddad state, now freedom of speech is being knocked on the head. Good old Mussolini is probably rubbing his hands in glee, knowing that fascist-type manipulation of information is being so widely implemented in a so-called non fascist state such as modern Italy. The late Mr M is probably quietly chuckling too that the so-called Italian communist party is in on the act too. What a fine situation.

Modern Italy a democracy? My foot! True democracies do not stifle the freedom of the press or the freedom of speech. The European Union needs to step in and put a stop to these peoples’ antics. After all, what democratic government in its right mind attempts to declare war on its own people? Boy, how these people detest critisicm, but boy how they find it so difficult to comprehend that they continually leave themselves wide open to negative publicity.

Prodi’s attempt at government will probably soon crumble, which is, on paper, no necessarily a bad thing. The only trouble is that what is lying in the wings is not all that palatable either. Talk about wolves in sheep’s clothing. They are every which way you look.

I pity the Italian people who will have to vote in forthcoming elections. Voting options: Devil and deep blue sea.

Francesco Cossiga Understood Italy

For those who did not know, Francesco Cossiga, who died the other day, was an Italian politician and one time President of Italy. Cossiga hailed from Sardinia, was a fan of John Le Carre and had earned himself the nickname “the pickaxe” owing to his no holds barred criticism of other Italian politicians.

Berlusconi v Fini – Slinging Old Mud

12 Aug 2010

As you may be aware, the generally tumultus world of Italian politics is in turmoil. The Berlusconi government is teetering on the brink of collapse, but what is really surprising, is that this collapse was sparked from the inside.

Berlusconi Divorces Fini

30 Jul 2010

Kotipizza Berlusconi

From spat to full-blown split. Silvio Berlusconi’s marriage of political convenience to Gianfranco Fini has ended in tears. Scorned lover Berlusconi even rejected Fini’s last minute attempts to kiss and make up and remain part of Berlusconi’s party of love. End of love in. Period.
