Singapore here!
I rang someone on my mobile today and was a little surprised when this person said *they were in Singapore. The line was crystal clear. Amazing technology. Frightening mobile phone bill.
*I should use he or she or only he or only she, but ‘they’ is handy at times, I think.
It’s hot
It’s September but the temperature is going over 30 degrees C still and I’m a sweaty betty. At least the heat goes a wee bit during the night allowing us to sleep, if the oldies disco is not thumping away.
A regular worry
I’ve just updated the Joomla! installation on my work site. It’s a simple enough operation if you know how to change file permissions and where to find the files which need a wee tweak or two, but I would not do it without first creating full backups of all and sundry in case Murphy’s law raises its ugly head.
In order to achieve one modification I had to look at my web hosters forum and found that the site’s moderator was not a huge fan of all things Joomla! and he stated that Joomla! patches only seem to come about as a result of a site based on this CMS being taken out by hackers. The mod gives the impression that the Joomla! CMS, which I use is not all that hacker-proof. I do hope he is wrong and I have to say that I have a lot of faith in the people behind Joomla! and they can probably move a lot faster than types who are bogged down by corporate bureaucracy. However, that said, I’ve installed a number of patches since I first set up the Joomla! based site. Let’s just hope they are all worthwhile.
Oh and the upgrade seems to have gone OK, my site is up and running again after its ‘down for maintenance’ period of around 5 minutes.
It’s nerve wracking being a webmaster at times.
